President John F. Kennedy
President John F. Kennedy was born in Brookline, MA in 1917.  He was president of the United States from 1961 to 1963.  His great grandparents Patrick and Bridget Kennedy were born in Ireland and came to the U.S. because of the potato famine.
His father was an ambassador and his father-in-law was "Honey" Fitzgerald, the mayor of Boston.  His brothers Edward Kennedy and Robert Kennedy worked in government and wanted to be president.   President John F. Kennedy

James Michael Curley was the Mayor of Boston from 1914 to 1930!  He was also Governor of Massachusetts.  His great grandparents were Irish.



Christa McAuliffe was the first teacher in space.  She died in 1986 when the Challenger space shuttle exploded.

Thomas Menino is the mayor of Boston now.  His grandparents came here from Italy.

Leonard Nimoy is an actor famous as Mr. Spock on Star Trek movies and TV shows. His parents were born in Russia.



Mary Antin was born in 1881 in PolotskRussia. She came to Boston when she was 13. At 15 years old, her poem was in the Boston Herald. In 1912 she wrote a book about her life as an immigrant called "The Promised Land".
