Assessment Strategies and Reading Profiles
This website is based on the Adult Reading Components Study (ARCS) done by researchers
from the National Center for the Stuidy of Adult Learning and Lirteracy. ARCS
assessed the reading of 955 adult learners. The researchers tested participants
individually on eleven skills (components) that contribute to reading ability.
A list of scores for each learner became that individual's reading profile,
illustrating his or her strengths and instructional needs. On this website,
569 Adult Basic Education (ABE) learners from the ARCS are grouped into 11 profiles.
Each profile group shows a distinctive pattern and/or level of reading component
skills.

Awesome stories describes itself as "the
story place on the web," and includes descriptions and primary source background

an interesting film, view it, and read the plot and source materials which put
it in context. Martin Scorsese's "Gangs of New York," for example
